Privacy Policy

Slide is a bill-splitting app operated by Rohan Bindu (sole proprietor, DBA Slide) in California, United States. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how you can control it. We've written it in plain English.

We do not sell your personal data: never have, never will. We do not use your data for advertising. We share it only with the service providers listed below, only as needed to run Slide, or when the law requires.

When you use Slide, we collect:

• Account info: name, username, email, phone number, profile photo. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the name and email your provider shares.
• Phone contacts (optional):if you grant permission, the app reads your contacts and sends them to our servers to find which of your friends are on Slide. Contacts that don't match a Slide account are discarded immediately; we don't store or log them.
• Expense data: receipts and receipt photos, amounts, descriptions, and the people involved in each transaction.
• Photos and posts: photos, captions, comments, and reactions you add to moments.
• Voice recordings:if you use voice features like “Say it,” the audio you record is processed to carry out your request (see AI features below). We don't use your voice for anything else.
• Payment method preferences: which payment platforms (Venmo, Cash App, Apple Cash, etc.) you prefer. Slide does not process payments itself. Links open the respective third-party app. Slide Cash is a demo balance, not real money; it is not connected to any bank account.
• Usage data: app events needed to improve reliability and performance (error logs, feature usage, API request logs).
• Device info: OS version, device model, and push notification token (if you opt in to notifications).
• Info about non-users: if someone claims items on a shared receipt link, they give us a name and phone number so the receipt owner knows who claimed what. We use it only for that receipt and its invite. Email us anytime to have it deleted.

Some Slide features are powered by AI service providers. Here is exactly what they receive:

• Receipt scanning: receipt photos are read by Google Cloud Vision (text extraction) and the text is structured into items and prices by OpenAI. If text extraction fails, the receipt photo itself is sent to OpenAI to parse.
• Voice requests: audio is transcribed by OpenAI, and the transcript is interpreted by OpenAI to build the request you asked for. Your contact list is never sent to AI providers; names are matched on our servers.

These providers process your data only to deliver the feature, and under their service terms they are not permitted to use it to train their AI models. Photos you post to moments are not sent to AI providers.

• People in your expenses: the people you split with can see the expense, the amounts, and who owes what. Those records stay part of their history even if you later delete your account.
• Moments: visible according to the audience you choose (just participants, friends, or everyone on Slide).
• Share links:if you (or someone in your group) create a share link, anyone with the link can see that page without logging in: a receipt link shows the items, prices, and first names involved; a moment link shows its photos, caption, and participants' names and avatars; a profile link shows your username, display name, and avatar. Moment links can be turned off anytime, and money amounts are never shown on moment pages.
• Referral leaderboard: if you refer friends, your username and referral count appear on the public leaderboard at useslideapp.com/leaderboard.

• Run the core Slide experience: creating accounts, splitting expenses, tracking balances, sending notifications.
• Verify your identity and protect your account (phone verification codes, session tokens).
• Debug crashes and improve performance.
• Communicate with you about your account or important product changes.
• Send you occasional news and feature updates. You can opt out anytime with the unsubscribe link in any email.

We do not use your data to serve ads. We do not track you across other apps or websites, and no third party collects information about your activity across other companies' sites or apps through Slide. Our website does not respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals because we don't do cross-site tracking in the first place.

This section is a draft pending legal review and may change before it is finalized.

To keep Slide safe, photos you upload are automatically screened for prohibited content before they are shown to others, and our team reviews content that is reported or flagged. This is described in our Acceptable Use Policy.

We are legally required to report apparent child sexual abuse material (CSAM) to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and to cooperate with law enforcement. When we identify such content, we preserve the relevant content and related records for as long as the law requires (currently up to one year, and longer if required by law or legal process), restrict access to it, and report it. We may also disclose your information to law enforcement or other authorities when we believe in good faith that it is required by law or necessary to protect people from harm.

Slide relies on a small number of service providers to operate. Each one receives only the data needed to deliver its specific service:

• Supabase, authentication, database, and photo storage.
• Render, backend API hosting.
• OpenAI, receipt parsing and voice features (see AI features above).
• Google, receipt text extraction (Cloud Vision), phone verification (Firebase), sign-in with Google, and Android push delivery.
• Resend, email delivery. Receives your email address (and name, if set) to deliver account and news emails. Nothing else is shared.
• PostHog, product analytics. Receives usage events (screens viewed, features used, app opens) tied to your account, including your email and display name so we can separate internal test accounts from real usage. We never send transaction amounts, message content, or receipt photos.
• Expo / Apple Push Notification Service, push notifications.
• Apple App Store / Google Play, distribution and crash reports.
• Twilio, SMS delivery for phone verification codes (being retired in favor of Firebase, above).

Payment apps like Venmo and Cash App are opened via deep links; Slide does not share your data with them beyond the amount and note in the link you choose to open.

• Contacts:you can deny or revoke contact access in your device settings at any time. Slide still works for existing expenses. You just can't invite new people by phone.
• Notifications: toggle push preferences in your device settings or in-app settings.
• Email opt-out:every news or feature-update email includes an unsubscribe link. One click and you're out; account emails (like password resets) still arrive.
• SMS opt-out: reply STOP to any Slide SMS to stop all future messages. See our SMS Policy.
• Delete your account:go to Settings → Delete account in the app. Deletion is immediate: your profile is scrubbed, your contacts and follows are removed, and pending requests are canceled. Expense records shared with other users remain visible to them, since those records are part of their history too. You can also email ro@useslideapp.com and we'll do it for you.
• Access or correct your data:email us and we'll provide a copy of your data or fix anything that's wrong. We honor these requests for everyone, not just where the law requires it.

We keep your data while your account is active. API request logs are deleted after 90 days. Aggregate feature-usage events may be kept longer to track how the product is doing over time. When you delete your account, your personal data is removed as described above; we may retain minimal records required by law (e.g. tax records) and safety records we are legally required to preserve.

Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest. Passwords are hashed. We use industry-standard auth tokens (JWT with asymmetric signing). If a breach occurs that affects your personal data, we'll notify you promptly as required by law.

Slide is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If we learn that we have, we delete it promptly; if you believe a child under 13 has an account, email us.

Slide is a small business that is not currently subject to the CCPA/CPRA, and we don't sell or share personal information for cross-context advertising in any case. California's “Shine the Light” law (Civil Code §1798.83) lets you ask which personal information a business shared with third parties for their direct marketing: our answer is none, ever. The access, correction, and deletion rights above are available to all users regardless of residence.

We'll update this page when we materially change how we handle data, and we'll update the “Last updated” date at the top. If changes significantly affect you, we'll email or in-app notify you before they take effect.
